The City of Oakland has released the 2023-2031 Housing Element Public Hearing Draft. This revised draft of the Housing Element addresses community feedback received from June 2022 to mid-October 2022 and fulfills requirements for compliance with state law.

The City of Oakland has published preliminary draft proposals to implement several zoning reforms identified in the draft Housing Element's Housing Action Plan.

Twenty (20) young leaders have been selected as inaugural Deeply Rooted (DR) Fellows. These young people will lead DR outreach efforts to engage Oakland’s youth in the update of the Oakland General Plan.

The draft General Plan Housing Element outlines the strategies and policies the City will implement over the next eight years in order to meet Oakland’s housing needs. The Housing Element was last updated in 2015 and is now being updated with public input to reflect the recent housing opportunities, challenges, and approaches that have emerged in the Oakland community, as well as to comply with new state laws.

The Deeply Rooted Youth Fellowship is recruiting young leaders to help with community outreach and engagement for the Oakland General Plan update. Fellows will learn city planning concepts and tools and build leadership skills through hands-on work, including speaking at community meetings/events, hosting pop-ups, social media outreach, and more!

The City of Oakland has released a draft set of Downtown Oakland Specific Plan (DOSP) Zoning Amendments designed to encourage affordable housing, support arts and culture, promote transit, encourage economic opportunity, enhance green spaces, and protect historic areas.

20 Oaklanders selected to serve on General Plan Equity Working Group, who will help identify challenges and advocate for solutions throughout the General Plan Update process.

At the end of April, the City of Oakland will release the draft zoning amendments that help implement the Downtown Oakland Specific Plan. Several public meetings will be hosted in May and June to discuss the proposed changes.
