We all know we need more affordable housing in Oakland. Oakland’s 2023-2031 Housing Element (adopted January 31, 2023) lays out programs and actions we can take to build more affordable housing. Many of these actions call for building more mixed-income housing throughout the City to lessen geographic inequities, racial segregation, and housing disparities.
In particular, the Housing Element's Action 3.3.7 directs the City to evaluate and consider an "inclusionary housing requirement" as part of its Affordable Housing Strategy as compared to the City’s existing Affordable Housing Impact Fee Program (Oakland Municipal Code Section 15.72.100).
On March 28, 2024, the City will host a virtual workshop to provide an overview of the City’s current Affordable Housing Impact Fee (AHIF) Program, define Inclusionary Housing, and examine the legal and policy context for the AHIF vs. inclusionary housing requirements.
We hope to see you there!
