Activating Your Corridor: How Small Businesses Can Take Control of Their Corridor" Workshop will provide best practices and local examples to inform entrepreneurs and the Small Business community on how to activate vacant space, engage residents and businesses, ensure public services are reaching the neighborhood, safeguard the cultural legacy of each neighborhood, and strengthen and increase local BIPOC small business presence.

Small businesses across the City of Oakland are standing up to advocate for their community and take greater control over the fate of their commercial corridors. From deep east Oakland to West Oakland, coalitions and organizations like the Black Cultural Zone, 7th Street Thrives, and the San Pablo Area Revitalization Collaborative are working on the ground to activate vacant space, engage residents and businesses, ensure public services are reaching the neighborhood, safeguard the cultural legacy of each neighborhood, and strengthen and increase local BIPOC small business presence. This workshop highlights the incredible work that each neighborhood is building, how small businesses can and will continue to lead this work, and how you can get involved.

After this workshop, attendees will:

  • Understand what each neighborhood is doing with respect to neighborhood revitalization.
  • Understand how to get involved, and where else these efforts are taking place.
  • Know how to advocate for public service needs in your neighborhood, from 311 to other public programs.
