Black Arts Movement District (BAMBD)

Oakland's rich African American heritage is of world renown and we aim to keep it that way. With the BAMBD, we will be lifting up and preserving what makes Oakland special: its murals, artists, and traditions while pressing forward with a strategy of economic development through art.

Boating

Due to Covid-19, the Lake Merritt Boating Center is currently closed for rentals.

Boating at Jack London Aquatic Center

We offer Youth and Adult Advanced Sailing and Recreation Center Advanced Kayaking programs. We also host community-based Rowing and Dragon Boating programs (scroll down for contact information).

Boating at Lake Merritt Boating Center

Boating programs are offered at Lake Merritt and the Oakland Estuary. Youth and community programs provide an entry point to gain skills to explore the wonders of Bay Area boating.

Bond Measure KK 1-4 Unit Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program

The purpose of the Bond Measure KK 1-4 Unit Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program is to provide loans for acquisition-related and rehabilitation costs associated with developing, protecting and preserving long term affordable housing throughout the City of Oakland.

Broadway Valdez District Specific Plan

The Broadway Valdez District Specific Plan envisions the district as a “complete” neighborhood that supports socially- and economically-sustainable mixed use development; increases the generation and capture of local sales tax revenue; celebrates the cultural and architectural influences of the neighborhood’s past and present-day prosperity, and implements a “green,” “transit-first” strategy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and the use of non-renewable resources.

Broadway Valdez District Specific Plan Environmental Impact Report

The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) evaluates a proposed project's impacts on the physical environment, such as traffic, air pollution, historic and archeological resources, biology, geology, public services and utilities, and hazardous materials. An EIR also recommends steps to avoid or minimize those impacts, called mitigation measures.

Brookdale Recreation Center

Located in the Maxwell Park District, Brookdale Recreation Center offers fun and creative recreational programs for youth and teens. Picnic tables and barbecue pits are provided high on the hill above the sounds of the vibrant neighborhood below. Picnic sites are available for use. Reservations can be made for a small fee. This park also includes a Science Discovery Center offering many social, community building, and educational activities. Stop by and visit with our friendly staff.

Brooklyn Basin (Formerly "Oak to Ninth Mixed Use Development")

The Brooklyn Basin project site is approximately 64 acres of waterfront property bounded by Embarcadero Road, Fallon Street, Tenth Avenue and the Estuary. The project includes up to 3,100 residential units including 465 affordable housing units, 200,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, a minimum of 3,950 parking spaces, approximately 32 acres of parks and public open space, two renovated marinas (total 170 boat slips), and an existing wetlands restoration area.

Budget Bureau

The Budget Bureau develops a balanced and fiscally responsible City budget. Every two years, we produce a Biennial Proposed Budget and an Adopted Budget. Additionally, we analyze the City's income and expenses to make sure our programs are efficient and effective.

Building Inspections

Planning and Building inspections ensure the safety of the built environment for Oaklanders. PBD Permit Inspections ensure that construction is proceeding according to the approved plans, project conditions-of-approval, and all current code standards. Due to extremely poor air quality inspections may be conducted remotely until further notice. Remote inspections must be in compliance with County of Alameda Construction Safety Protocols. Building Plan Check Services

The Plan Check Services division of Building Bureau offers a team of in-house engineers to review and answer questions pertaining to submitted plans. To better serve Oakland residents and customers, Plan Check Engineers are available for drop-in consultations and during the specified hours shown below.

Public Works provides direct tenant services to a wide variety of client agencies, including custodial services, building engineering, security and access controls, air quality monitoring, emergency response and property management.

Bushrod Recreation Center

Located in North Oakland’s Temescal District, Bushrod Recreation Center was constructed in 2000, making it one of newest recreation centers in the area. Bushrod is equipped with a full sized gymnasium, weight room, kitchen, play structure, lighted basketball and tennis courts, lighted football/soccer fields, baseball/softball field, and picnic areas. Let’s make Bushrod your home away from home.
