Resilience hubs in Oakland are planned to support frontline communities to become stronger, more self-determining, socially connected, and successful before, during, and after disruptions. Resilience hub facilities have backup sources of energy, heating, cooling, and air filtration. They may have green infrastructure, such as reducing carbon pollution, providing green space, and utilizing grey water systems. In addition to municipal projects, community-based organizations throughout Oakland are implementing resilience hub activities. Check this page for more information about Resilience Hubs in general and for information on how Oakland plans to develop them here, in our community.
Crossing Guards are an important school and community resource for safety. The Oakland Department of Transportation Crossing Guard program (formerly managed by the Oakland Police Department until early 2021) is comprised of part-time employees under the supervision of the School Traffic Safety Supervisor in the Safe Streets Division of OakDOT.
The Oakland Promise is an initiative launched by Mayor Schaaf and the Oakland Unified School District in 2016 that aims to triple the number of Oakland high school graduates who are complete college by the year 2024.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI) states that no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of or subject to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. We keep Oakland's streets safe for all residents and visitors.
A person is severely injured or killed in a traffic crash two times a week on Oakland’s streets. The City of Oakland Department of Transportation is working to prevent crashes, save lives and improve mobility for everyone who travels on Oakland's streets and sidewalks.

The first section of Oakland's 2030 Equitable Climate Action Plan (ECAP) is Transportation + Land Use (TLU). Transportation accounts for two thirds of Oakland’s local greenhouse gas emissions. The TLU Actions were developed with a vision that integrated land use and access to safe, reliable, low-cost, high-quality mobility options for every Oaklander will enable an equitable transition away from cars.
The City of Oakland will only prune trees in hazardous or emergency situations. In 2008, nearly half of the Tree Services unit was eliminated due to lack of funding. The tree planting, watering, pruning and pollarding services were all eliminated.
