Merchants actively participate in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their business corridors. You may hear this program called Merchant Watch, Business Alert, or Business Watch. But the idea is the same: Merchants looking out for each other.

Militarized Equipment Ad Hoc

The Militarized Equipment Ad Hoc Committee is tasked with drafting and updating policies regulating the acquisition and use of militarized equipment by the Oakland Police Department in accordance with the City of Oakland's Controlled Equipment Ordinance (OMC 9.65) and state law (AB 481; Gov Code 7070 et seq.)

Mills Act

The Mills Act assists property owners in reaping the benefits of historic rehabilitation and preservation. It can reduce taxes for historic properties if the owners volunteer to repair and maintain the historic character of their property.

Modernizing Transportation Impact Review

The goal of the Modernizing Transportation Impact Review (TIR) project is to better align the City of Oakland’s approach to transportation impact analysis with adopted plans and polices, which promote the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the development of multimodal transportation networks and a diversity of land uses.

Montclair Recreation Center

This community center is nestled in the Montclair District, complete with a duck pond, picnic areas, tennis courts, outdoor basketball court, and modern play equipment. Our center is now more accessible to community members with physical disabilities after renovations. The center offers varied, balanced, and comprehensive recreational programs at a reasonable price for all ages.

Morcom Rose Garden

The Morcom Rose Garden has thousands of exotic roses that are in bloom from Mother’s Day in May through October 31st.The Amphitheatre of Roses in the garden is an enchanting location for weddings, renewals, memorial celebrations and ceremonies. Visitors will see winding walkways, a reflecting pool, graceful stairways and fountain cascades.The Garden is wheelchair accessible. The garden may be reserved after Mother’s Day in May through October 31. Reservations are booked on a first come first serve basis.

Mosswood Recreation Center

An expansive green space at the edge of downtown Oakland, Mosswood Park is an iconic Oakland institution rich with history and culture. Mosswood Park combines the names of 19th century Oaklanders J. Mora Moss and Julia Wood, whose 1864 Carpenter Gothic style Victorian mansion still stands at the center of the site. The former Mosswood estate became a public park between 1909 and 1911, thereafter hosting pre-NBA basketball players on its courts, important cultural events on its grounds and everyday Oaklanders throughout the years.

OPD is partnering with the U.S. Marshal and participating Northern California local, state, federal, and tribal law enforcement agencies to bring wanted criminals to justice.

Mountain View Cemetery Proposed Expansion Project (2016)

The proposed Mountain View Cemetery Expansion Project (2016) includes developing currently undeveloped portions of the Cemetery site for the addition of future burial sites. The proposed project includes three separate but interconnected plots on the Mountain View Cemetery property. Developing the three parcels would include extensive grading and tree removal, extension of existing roadways through the three plots and improvements such as landscape walls and stairs, an amphitheater for gatherings, crypts and columbarium niches, and planting of new trees.

National Dam Safety Awareness Day - May 31st

National Dam Safety Awareness Day occurs each year on May 31 to commemorate the failure of the South Fork Dam in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on May 31, 1889. National Dam Safety Awareness Day was created to encourage and promote individual and community responsibility and best practices for dam safety, and what steps people can take to either prevent future catastrophic dam failures or lessen the impact if a failure was to occur. Another important goal of National Dam Safety Awareness Day is to promote the benefits that dams offer.

Negotiated Settlement Agreement (NSA) Ad Hoc

The NSA Ad Hoc is tasked with: (1) Representing the Commission in all deliberations and discussions with other stakeholders pertaining to the Sustainability Period and efforts to resolve Court oversight; (2) Reviewing the status of OPD compliance with NSA Tasks 5 (investigations) and 45 (racial disparity in discipline) and make recommendations as to any policies that may be required to achieve compliance in these areas,; and (3) Recommend policies and actions required to ensure that the constitutional policing mandated by the NSA continues beyond the Sustainability Period.
