Public Art in Oakland

Public Art enlivens, enriches and enhances our visual environment and public spaces. The best public art creates a focal point for activity, a meeting place or a landmark -- and lets residents and visitors enjoy the tremendous creative talent found in our city.

Public Ethics Commission Enforcement Program

The Public Ethics Commission (PEC) has authority to impose penalties for violations of ethics laws, campaign finance laws, and lobbyist registration requirements. The Commission also can mediate or recommend “cure and correction” for violations of public records and open meetings laws, respectively.

Public Process to Develop the Truck Management Plan

The TMP is the result of a joint planning effort undertaken by the Port of Oakland and City of Oakland from October 2017 to January 2019 with substantial input from the West Oakland residential and business communities. Community input was obtained through a series of stakeholder workshops, as well as one-on-one meetings, presentations before community and business associations, and surveys.

Racial Equity at Planning & Building

Oakland's Planning & Building Department acknowledges the historical role that planners, building and development professionals, and other officials have played in enabling systemic racism and segregation in our communities. To reverse these harms, we commit to prioritizing the voices and needs of Oakland's Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) residents in the development of our City.

Rainbow Recreation Center

The newly renovated Rainbow Recreation Center serves the East Oakland Community with recreational activities for all ages. The center features the Jason Richardson Gymnasium, lighted outdoor basketball courts, soccer/flag football field, playground, toddler play area, commercial kitchen, patio area, computer lab, and community room.

Re-imagine the Oakland Main Library

The City of Oakland and the Oakland Public Library are embarking upon an effort to study options for the renovation, redevelopment or relocation of the Oakland Main Library on 14th Street.

Real Estate

The Real Estate Asset Management Division provides excellent, cost-effective and professional real estate services to all City departments, the Oakland Redevelopment Successor Agency, City Administrator, the Mayor and City Council.

Recycling Facilities

Development of the Gateway Industrial District provides an opportunity to relocate two recycling businesses currently located in the West Oakland neighborhood to a more suitable location.

Redevelopment Successor Agency Oversight Board

The Redevelopment Successor Agency and its Oversight Board was created to wind down and complete the activities of the former Oakland Redevelopment Agency following dissolution in 2012.
