The FM Smith Recreation Center serves youth, teens, and seniors in downtown Oakland and surrounding communities. Our multilingual staff speaks several languages, including English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Spanish. The center features a basketball court, two play structures, picnic area, fully equipped computer lab, multipurpose room, and a renovated kitchen.

Franklin Recreation Center is located in lower East Oakland, adjacent to Franklin Elementary School. The center features a lighted softball field, outside basketball court, patio areas, asphalt playground, and children’s play structures outside. Inside our building, our center features a social hall/multi-purpose room, and an activity room which serves as our game room and computer lab. This great community resource offers diverse programming for children and teens.
The Free Broadway Shuttle offers fast connections from BART, San Francisco Bay Ferry, Amtrak, Amtrak San Joaquins and Capitol Corridor to downtown Oakland offices, restaurants, local shops, social services and entertainment venues.
