2020 marks the 26th annual Oakland Earth Day, as well the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970. Fifty years ago it was estimated that 20 million people organized across the United States and helped catalyze the modern environmental movement.
Though for the time being, due to COVID-19, we can’t show up in person like when one in ten Americans did on that first Earth Day, we can still organize and take actions for the Earth from our homes.
We will be sharing resources for digital and home-based Earth stewardship and inviting the public’s input throughout April on this website and through City of Oakland social media platforms.
