Responsibilities
The Fire Prevention Bureau is primarily responsible for fire safety education, inspection of high hazard occupancies, fire code enforcement, and vegetation management. The Bureau provides plan checking services that assure the incorporation of proper life safety standards, as well as code compliance, in all new construction in the city.

*Please note that the Alameda County Department of Environmental Health is the Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) for the City of Oakland and is responsible for the coordination and enforcement of the numerous local, state, and federal hazardous materials management programs and regulations
