If an alarm is triggered, officers will respond. They cannot tell if it is a false alarm or not. And that means that false alarms take resources away from where they are genuinely needed. Oakland's Burglar Alarm Ordinance, adopted in 2009, was created to reduce false alarms. This ordinance authorizes the City to charge and collect fees for permits, alarm registration violations, and services provided.
