Tovah Ackerman

Tovah Ackerman joined the City of Oakland Public Ethics Commission as Enforcement Chief in January of 2025. Most recently, Ackerman worked as an investigator for Prison Law Office, a non-profit law firm using class action suits to improve the California penal system. She has worked in both state and federal public defense offices in San Francisco and New York. She also has experience as an investigator at the New York Innocence Project and the Habeas Corpus Resource Center, a death penalty appeals organization based in San Francisco.

Ackerman has a J.D. from New York University School of Law, an M.A. from Berkeley in Rhetoric, an M.Phil in Criminology from the University of Cambridge, and a B.A. from Amherst College.
