Brandon Baranco

Deputy Chief of Staff

Brandon M. Baranco serves as Deputy Chief of Staff to Oakland City Councilmember Sheng Thao. Brandon is tasked with managing the Councilmember’s legislative and policy agenda, budget priorities, and is the lead staff member to the Port of Oakland. Brandon also spearheads constituent and community relations in the northern part of the District.

Brandon began his career in a prestigious internship at the California State Assembly Chief Clerk’s Office where he worked on the Assembly Floor. He later served as a Field Representative for Assemblymember Nancy Skinner. Before joining the City of Oakland, Brandon served as Senior Field Representative for California State Assemblymember Tony Thurmond (D – Richmond) who represents the 15th Assembly District, encompassing cities along the I-80 Corridor from Hercules to Oakland. Brandon represented the Assemblymember on matters concerning Alameda County, the City of Oakland, and the City of Emeryville.

Brandon currently serves as an Associate on the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee and is serving his third term as Delegate to California Democratic Party appointed by Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D – Oakland). Brandon previously served on City of Oakland Budget Advisory Commission.

Born and raised in East Oakland, and a product of Oakland Public Schools. Brandon graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and a Minor in History from the University of California, Merced and holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Mills College in Oakland.

Brandon continues to live in Oakland and enjoys running and weightlifting in his spare time. He and his family are frequent Disneyland visitors who are firm believers that “there's more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done.” (The Lion King, 1994)
