Building Electrification

The City of Oakland is pursuing cost-effective, equitable pathways to eliminate natural gas use in buildings. See below for details of outreach, engagement, and data on the health and climate impacts of natural gas, electric alternatives to gas systems, and cost-effectiveness analysis.

California College of the Arts (CCA)

The California College of Arts (CCA) Oakland Campus site is proposed for redevelopment with 448 residential units in two buildings and preservation of the Treadwell Estate, a City of Oakland Landmark.

Calm East Oakland Streets

Creating calm neighborhood streets and more inviting spaces for people walking and biking to local destinations

Cary Avenue Full Trash Capture Project

This page provides information about a state-mandated project to install a trash capture device in a storm drainage pipe in East Oakland in order to reduce water pollution.

City Ticket Distribution Policy

The City of Oakland receives suite tickets to every Raiders, Oakland A’s, and Warriors game as well as all other Oracle Arena and Coliseum events, along with additional field tickets to every A’s game, resulting in thousands of tickets to the City each year. Most tickets go directly to Councilmembers rather than the City’s executive branch, which is responsible for the management of City assets.

Claremont Hotel

In 2016, Signature Development Group submitted an application for construction of 44 residential units, various site and circulation improvements, and expansion of club membership and facilities on the grounds of the Claremont Hotel, a designated City Landmark (Case File #PLN16053).

Coliseum Area Assessment Grants

In 2006, the US EPA awarded the City of Oakland two “community-wide” brownfield assessment grants totaling $400,000 for use in the Coliseum Area of east Oakland.

Community Engagement Teams

Community engagement team (CET) members are individuals with lived experience and deep community ties. CET members perform outreach to individuals and families in hot spot areas in order to proactively mediate conflicts and engage individuals in services, deliver cognitive behavioral skills training, and connect individuals to needed services.

Crossing to Safety — Park Blvd at East 38th St and Excelsior Ave

CONSTRUCTION STATUS: The two project traffic signals on Park Blvd were turned on in September 2023. This included one new traffic signal adjacent to Edna Brewer Middle School at 13th Ave and one traffic signal modification at the intersection of Excelsior Ave/Grosvenor Pl/Alma Pl. Landscaping at both intersections is scheduled to be complete in October. OakDOT plans to install plastic delineators, pavement markings, and signs to remove a lane in each direction on Park Blvd approaching the crosswalks at Beaumont Ave to slow traffic and reduce exposure for pedestrians crossing the street. This work is planned for Spring of 2024.

D1 Mural Funding

I'm excited to announce that my office has additional mural funding to distribute! I've been able to partially fund murals in various D1 locations including on Piedmont Ave., San Pablo Ave, Market St., Lowell St., and Claremont Ave., and I'm looking forward to funding more.
