Projects

Lake Merritt Bay Trail

The Oakland Waterfront Trail is a part of the San Francisco Bay Trail, a planned 500-mile network of bicycle and hiking trails that will form a continuous ring around the Bay.

Lake Merritt Channel

The Lake Merritt Channel is a narrow waterway that connects Lake Merritt with the Estuary and San Francisco Bay.

Lake Merritt Parking Meter Pilot Program

UPDATE: Parking meter enforcement began on Monday, March 13th, 2023. Pay-by-plate using the Parkmobile app or one of the new kiosks. Meters will be enforced Monday through Saturday, 8AM to 8PM and Sundays Noon to 8PM. Parking Enforcement has completed testing of systems and is ramping up patrols. A three month warning period ended June 30, so all vehicles found non-compliant are now subject to citation.

Lakeshore Avenue

The work along Lakeshore Avenue and El Embarcadero included restoration of the historic Pergola in 2007, reconstruction of the historic E.18th Street Pier in 2008, and complete park renovation, seawall repair, path improvements and street calming in 2009.

Lakeside Green Street Restoration Project

The intersection of 20th Street, Lakeside Drive, and Harrison Street adjacent to Snow Park was not friendly to pedestrians or park users. The Lake Merritt Master Plan called for this intersection to be reconfigured to calm traffic, create safer pedestrian crossings, add bike lanes, and increase park space. This work was completed in 2019.

Lakeside Park Entrance

The entrance project to Lakeside Park, Children’s Fairyland and the Garden Center will improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and pathways at Grand Avenue and Bellevue Avenue.

Lincoln Recreation Center Renovation Project

The City of Oakland welcomes our community to envision a new state-of-the-art Community Resilience and Recreation Center at 250 10th Street. This new recreation center is top priority to replace the existing outdated and aging recreation center.

Lowering Speed Limits in Business Activity Districts

Assembly Bill 43, Friedman: Traffic Safety (AB 43) was signed into law in late 2021 by California’s Governor. Under AB 43, local governments may, by ordinance, set a prima facie speed limit of 20 mph or 25 mph on streets contiguous to a “business activity district” (a new designation authorized by AB 43).

MacArthur BART Transit Village Project (MacArthur Station)

The MacArthur Transit Village is a mixed-use, multi-phased transit-oriented development located at the MacArthur BART Station. The village offers 880 new residential units, 143 at below market rent, and a new parking garage with 478 spaces for BART patrons and guests. The project will also contain nearly 40,000 square feet of new commercial/retail space (project case file #PUD06058).
