OPD Officers’ Swift Response Helps Save Gunshot Victim

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) would like to recognize the swift and heroic actions of its officers who responded to a robbery and shooting on Wednesday morning in the 1900 block of Cortereal Avenue.

Just before 9:15 a.m., officers arrived on the scene and located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound(s), bleeding profusely. Officers quickly assessed the situation and began providing immediate medical attention.

Officer S. Wesley applied pressure to the victim’s abdomen, while Officer P. Tenefrancia applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg, successfully stopping the bleeding before medical personnel arrived. Officer D. Fortin also assisted in stabilizing the victim until the Oakland Fire Department and Falck paramedics arrived. The victim was then transported to an area hospital for treatment. He was last listed in stable condition.

Our officers acted quickly, decisively, and professionally, and their efforts likely saved the victim’s life.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the investigators at (510) 238-3326.
