Officers and a Community Member Save Man’s Life

Three Oakland Police officers are being recognized for their quick and decisive actions in saving a man's life after last month's Oakland Roots game.

Officer M. Cooper, Officer M. Everett, and Officer H. Jimenez were on special assignment at the soccer game. Once the match ended, the officers saw the man lying on the ground in the parking lot, unresponsive and not breathing. They immediately began life-saving measures, including chest compressions for more than seven minutes. A community member who identified herself as a nurse also assisted.

Thanks to their efforts, the man regained a pulse and began breathing. Oakland Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after and transported him to the hospital for further treatment. Officers believe the man stopped breathing for about ten minutes.

The officers' actions reflect their dedication and readiness to respond swiftly when every second counts. This incident also highlights the collaboration between first responders and the community during emergencies.
