Oakland CA — On Saturday, April 19, Oakland Public Works (OPW) will celebrate its 31st annual Oakland Earth Day with volunteer events across the city. Community members can take action to protect and enhance Oakland’s natural environment by participating in a neighborhood clean-up, tending a community garden, planting trees, or learning more about environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the community organizations that continue to partner with us year after year for Oakland Earth Day—and to the new volunteers joining us for the first time,” said Josh Rowan, Director of OakDOT and Interim Director of Oakland Public Works. "Oakland residents understand that the health of our environment is directly connected to our own well being, so when we plant trees and get litter off our streets, we’re not only protecting the planet—we’re also looking out for one another.”
People of all ages and abilities can participate by visiting www.oaklandca.gov/earthday to view an interactive map of event sites and register to volunteer. Oakland Public Works encourages community members to participate by joining one of the seven City-sponsored sites below, which can accommodate large groups of volunteers.
