The City of Oakland's Planning & Building Department (PBD) will increase fees by June 16 to fully recover the cost of services provided. The new fee schedule officially became effective immediately after approval by the Oakland City Council on February 21, 2023. However, the fees are only effective June 16 due to technical constraints.

Background

On February 21, 2023, the Oakland City Council approved an ordinance to update the City's Master Fee Schedule (MFS), increasing most fees by 5%. All fees and penalties that are collected for the services PBD provides go into the Development Services Fund, from which PBD receives almost all of its funding. The MFS documents the fees and charges for all City services. The cost of services provided by the City is often recovered by charging fees to users as permitted under State law. The Council report and related items may be found here, and the new fee schedule may be found here.
