On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, in-person services resumed at City of Oakland Head Start/Early Head Start centers.

The Head Start centers reopened for children who were enrolled and attending a classroom in-person before Head Start centers temporarily closed for in-person classes in December, due to the holiday spike in COVID-19 cases in Alameda County. Children currently enrolled in the virtual learning program will continue to learn online as normal.

For Oakland Head Start families who do not wish to return to in-person classes and would like to remain in the virtual program, please let your Family Advocate know or contact Head Start at 510-238-3165.

The Oakland Head Start classrooms have been deep cleaned and disinfected and are ready for children and staff to return. The Oakland Head Start program will continue to take every precaution and follow safety protocols, including screening all children and employees as they enter the school and encouraging hand hygiene, sanitizing, and mask usage.

Oakland Head Start has been continuously monitoring the number of COVID-19 cases in Alameda County — and will continue to do so. Now, because Alameda County residents continue to do their part to diminish the spread of the virus, the number of cases is dropping.

If you are an Oakland Head Start family in need of support, please contact your Family Advocate or Center Director, or call the Oakland Head Start office at (510) 238-3165.
