Individuals Connected to Car Caravan Damage Multiple Oakland Businesses

At 11:37 PM, OPD officers observed approximately 30 vehicles traveling westbound on San Leandro Street headed towards Fruitvale Avenue.

On April 22, 2021, shortly after midnight, officers observed another group of vehicles gathered in the area of 107th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. The group quickly dispersed when police arrived.

At approximately 12:11 AM, the Communications Division received reports of a burglary in progress in the 3700 block of Mandela Parkway at the Best Buy store. It was reported that multiple vehicles were at this location and approximately 20 individuals unsuccessfully attempted to enter the business. Officers responded to the scene and observed damage to the business which included shattered glass doors.

At approximately 1:14 AM, the Communications Division received reports of a burglary in progress in the 5800 block of Foothill Boulevard at the Walgreens store. Individuals broke the glass door in an attempt to gain entry but were unsuccessful. Officers responded to the scene and observed damage to the business.

At approximately 2:06 AM, the Communications Division received a report of a burglary in progress in the 100 block of 98th Avenue at the Hilti store. It was reported that approximately a dozen individuals entered the business by cutting a hole in the metal roll-up gate and shattering a window. Individuals stole property and fled the area.

Officers are collecting and reviewing surveillance videos from the crime scenes. These incidents are currently being investigated, as no arrests have been at this time. OPD encourages residents and business owners to consider installing security cameras as well as alarms. These technologies can both deter crime and help solve crimes after they occur.
