Oakland, CA –The Oakland Police Department encourages everyone to celebrate
this New Year’s Eve safely and not participate in celebratory gunfire and avoid

firearm discharges and the use of illegal fireworks.
As a part of our commitment to public safety and the quality of life in our
community, the Oakland Police Department is focused on stopping/deterring
illegal gun use and fireworks.
During the holiday, the Department will increase staffing and direct officers to
patrol key areas of the City to ensure community safety.
 Celebratory Gunfire = Jail
 Those caught with fireworks can be fined from $1,000 to $10,000 and
could face imprisonment.
