Traffic Safety Update from OakDOT to 98th Ave & Elmhust United Middle School communities, April 30, 2020
Publish Date: Apr, 30 2020
On January 17, 2020, a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of 98th Avenue and Cherry Street took the life of Miesha Singleton, a 40-year-old mother of seven children, just outside Elmhurst United Middle School. Community members met with City of Oakland transportation and police leaders and elected offices in late February 2020 to discuss traffic safety in this area. OakDOT Director Ryan Russo committed to coming back within two months with a response to what staff heard from the community and follow-up action items. While a follow-up town hall is not possible due to today’s COVID-19 circumstances, OakDOT wants to make good on that commitment by providing an update in writing. This update was shared with school and neighborhood leaders on April 30, 2020, in English and Spanish.
