Universal Basic Mobility Pilot

Income-qualifying Oaklanders can receive funding for transit, shared mobility, and other mobility-related services through prepaid debit cards and Clipper Cards. Stay tuned for project updates!

WEST OAKLAND UNIVERSAL BASIC MOBIITY PILOT

UPDATE - Winter 2023/24

Up to 1,000 West Oaklanders will be eligible to receive up to $320 each for eligible transportation expenses thanks to a grant from the Alameda County Transportation Commission. To be eligible for this pilot, participants must live or work in West Oakland and qualify as “Low” or “Moderate” Income. This ranges from a $124,250 yearly income for a one person household to $234,300 for an eight person household. Click here for more information on Housing and Community Development Department Income Limits.

We deeply apologize for the delay in sending cards to participants. OakDOT staff encountered unforeseen privacy and contract issues that severely delayed the program. We have made significant progress through these issues and anticipate sending cards to West Oakland residents in early 2024. Sign-ups for the West Oakland Pilot are currently closed, but will re-open in early 2024.

EAST OAKLAND PARTICIPANTS

The East Oakland Pilot ended in Winter 2021, but prepaid cards can still be activated. Remember that you can only use your card on public transit, bikeshare, and e-scooters, including (but not limited to) these providers:
